The Hotel Rex was originally constructed in 1907 and restored by Joie de Vivre Hospitality in 1996. The Salon in the hotel is a unique and opulent space with rich ruby-red carpeting, gold-toned lamp chandeliers and caricature drawings by Jack Keating. The Hotel Rex is easily accessible by public transportation. The 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, and 4 Sutter all travel up Sutter Street and stop less then a block from the hotel. The Powell Street Cable Car also stops at Sutter and Powell. The 2 Clement is an easy transfer from the Embarcadero BART Station, and the Powell Street Cable Car is an easy transfer from the Powell Street BART Station as well as all Market Street Muni Lines.
By Car From the Golden Gate Bridge
After crossing the bridge, take US 101 to Lombard Street and turn right on Van Ness Avenue towards Civic Center. Turn left at Bush St., proceed 8 blocks and turn right on Powell St. Proceed 1 block and turn right on Sutter St. The Hotel Rex will be on your right at 562 Sutter St.
BY car From the Bay Bridge
After crossing the bridge, take the Fremont St. exit and turn left onto Fremont St. Continue on Fremont St. across Market St. (Fremont becomes Front St. on the other side of Market). Turn left at Pine St. Turn left at Powell St. and turn right at Sutter. The Hotel Rex will be on your right at 562 Sutter St.
By Car From the peninsula via 101
Take US101 North and exit at 4th Street, make sure to be in the left or middle lane on the exit ramp and take Bryant St. 1 block to 3rd St. and turn left at 3rd St. Proceed 5 blocks, crossing Market St. and veer right onto Kearny St. and proceed 2 blocks. Turn left at Sutter St. and proceed 4 blocks. The Hotel Rex will be on your right at 562 Sutter St.
The two largest and closest parking garages are the Sutter-Stockton Garage, located at 410 Stockton at Sutter, and the Union Square Garage, located at 333 Post between Powell and Stockton. There are other smaller garages around the area as well.
