31st Season Gala
Friends of San Francisco Performances celebrated the thirty-first season launch at the October 15 Gala at the historic Mark Hopkins Hotel. The event raised more than $170,000 to support SF Performances' award-winning education programs.
The evening began with a cocktail hour in the Room of the Dons before SF Performances' president and founder Ruth Felt and board chair Judy Harding greeted the guests in the Peacock Court. Later in the evening Galileo High School music teacher Joseph Taylor described how SF Performances' education programs have inspired his students not only to hone their musical skills but to also develop as well-rounded, creative and mature adults.
Young vocalist Adam Green, a former Westlake Middle School student who participated in workshops with two of our jazz artists-in-residence—vibraphonist Stefon Harris and vocalist Luciana Souza—sang an aria to open the entertainment, and a spirited auction followed with guests bidding on items such as a private concert with composer and pianist Jake Heggie, a dinner party prepared in the winner's home by renowned chef Jeff Freburg and a VIP package for two to the 2011 Festival del Sole.
The evening culminated with a performance by Heggie and soprano Talise Trevigne that included several of Heggie's compositions, favorite arias and American standards. SF Performances extends its thanks to the many corporate supporters and Gala co-chairs Fred Levin and Nancy Livingston, who helped make the evening a success.
