Taylor2
September 28-October 1, 2004
November 1-2, 2004

The six dancers of Taylor 2 - the second company of the Paul Taylor Dance Company - returned to SFP for another intensive week of performances and workshops. They led advanced dance students at several Bay Area public schools, and visited two elementary school classes for lecture/demonstrations about modern dance and Paul Taylor. A special event this time involved a new venture in the San Francisco Unified School District's Dream Schools project, where SFP collaborated with San Francisco Ballet and presented a special dance performance for the students, staff, and families of the Dream Schools. Another special performance was part of Taylor 2's earlier visit in October: they danced Paul Taylor's classic "Esplanade" at the finale of SFP's 25th Anniversary Gala, to standing ovations!

Stefon Harris
October 1-7, 2004
Jazz Artist-in-Residence Stefon Harris was in the Bay Area in early October. He mixed a packed scheduled of education and outreach activities with performances. On October 1st, he joined Andre Watts, the Eroica Trio and others for San Francisco Performances' 25th Anniversary Gala. Two days later, Stefon was joined by the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars on stage at the Herbst Theatre, at the first Family Matinee of the season. Stefon will return in February for the last residency week of his four-year residency with SFP.

Alieksey Vianna
October 12-13, 2004
Brazilian guitarist Alieksey Vianna substituted for SFP's Guitarist-in-Residence Antigoni Goni for the spring guitar residency. Alieksey visited the thriving guitar class at Westlake Middle School, where students had created Alieksey Vianna trading cards and asked great questions about his musical background. At Miraloma Elementary School, Alieksey joined budding rock stars enrolled in the Little Kids Rock afterschool guitar program. At Galileo High School, he coached the Guitar Ensemble with the help of Guitar Mentor Ross Thompson and gave a short recital for the guitar students.

Chris Nomura
November 1-5, 2004
Vocal Artist-in-Residence Chris Nomura returned to San Francisco during the first week of November for another busy residency week. His Performance Poetry sessions at three Bay Area public schools were the highlight of his week; this year, he visited his first drama class (at San Lorenzo High School)! Chris also made time to collaborate with his accompanist Daniel Lockert and other local musicians, performing in a Salon program that matched Schubert's "Trout" in song form as well as the string quartet version.
