ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR ADULT AUDIENCES

Saturday Morning Series
Music Historian-in-Residence Robert Greenberg, and the Alexander String Quartet, bring the chamber music repertory alive in these Saturday morning explorations, featuring Greenberg's fast-paced, entertaining lectures, complete with musical illustrations, followed by full performances of each work with the Alexander Quartet.

Concerts with Conversation
Many artists on SFP's mainstage series appear at the Community Music Center in free Concerts with Conversation. These unique gatherings give local community members an opportunity to hear exceptional artists in an informal setting and talk with them about their work. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds share in these enthusiastic performances.

During the 2007–2008 Season, the following artists will be giving these concerts, from 6–7 pm:
Katona Twins (Oct. 5)
Alexander String Quartet (Dec. 4)
Billy Childs (Feb. 1)
Uri Caine (Feb. 15)
Louis Lortie (Mar. 17)

Salons at the Hotel Rex
Hotel Rex. These informal, after work events last just one-hour, and drinks may be purchased in the hotel bar before each concert. The 2007–08 salon series includes Bay Area greats such as jazz drummer Scott Amendola and San Francisco Opera‘s own Elza Van den Heever.

Special Workshops
Occasionally, SFP collaborates with artists to present workshops or seminars designed to enrich audiences’ experience with the performing arts. Two notable recent examples are the contemporary music workshop with violinist Midori in March/April 2006 and the series of amateur master classes with soprano Barbara Bonney.

SFP’s Ruth Felt shares her reflections about the collaboration with Midori in a guest column on Midori's website.

In April 2006, KQED’s arts program “Spark” captured scenes from the master class, not to mention interviews with the participants and Barbara Bonney’s deeply felt remarks about what the experience means to her as an artist.
